Last Saturday I was relaxing on my sofa when I got a call that the Royal Taste of India, a local Whistler restaurant, needed a set of photos for the Whistler Restaurant Guide. The problem was that they were going to press the next morning, so I’d have to shoot that night, while the restaurant was open, and then have the photos ready that evening so they could get a disk over to the publisher first thing in the morning. Starting about 8:00 in the evening (it was Whistler’s opening weekend, and the restaurant was just too busy before that), I shot until about 9:30, ran home and processed the photos, and got them back to the owner by 11:30 that night.
The food is really amazing, I got a chance to eat he curry dishes we used as props, and they were the best Indian food I’e had sine I left Durban in South Africa. There are a lot great Whistler Restaurants, and I hope I get a chance to work with some more of them.
Since we put this together so quickly, there was no way to use my usually lighting equipment, so I shot the whole thing with an SB-900 flash mounted in a small soft box. While not idea, it worked pretty well.
